Beth SomersetLevel 2 Stylist & Colourist
My adventure in hairdressing started when I joined the team at Material at the sweet age of 16 and have been here ever since. I have had quite a journey, training with Paul from the start and qualifying as Material’s first home-grown stylist. During my apprenticeship I entered 2 competitions with the National Hairdressers Federation, reaching the finals both times. I got to train with the HOB Academy in London for a few days which was another great starting point for me. My passion for cutting inspired me to work in London again on a training course at Sassoon – I loved every minute of it! Creating classic cuts with seamless soft colours is my favourite, I also enjoy looking for ways I can use colour to enhance the creative styles I enjoy cutting so much. I enjoy freehand, creative balayage’s too. Besides my love of hair, I am a massive people person and just love having fun inside the salon and out!
Paul HarewoodHair Stylist & Salon Director
I practice world-leading techniques of precision hairdressing. My haircuts are structured, often with strong lines, to create technically sound, classic shapes which I soften and loosen to be wearable in day to day life. I left a solid clientele in Bath behind when I was selected to train at Vidal Sassoon in my 20s. After passing the exacting final presentation, I went on to work in Sassoon salons and academies in London. As Creative Director of Mahogany Academy I travelled the world teaching, presented at ‘Salon International’ and ‘Cosmoprof’ and had my work published in industry magazines. More recently, I trained in hair loss at the Philip Kingsley Trichology Clinic to help our clients maintain a healthy scalp for healthy hair. In 2016 I completed the 365 business management programme. In 2017 I’m sitting on a ‘Trailblazers’ Committee – a group of employers responsible for setting apprenticeship standards in England. Material’s team is fully employed.
